Fluor (NYSE: FLR) received a Hydrocarbon Processing award today
at the sixth annual International Refining and Petrochemicals Conference
(IRPC) in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, for its role in the Sadara
Chemical project in Saudi Arabia.
Sadara is a joint venture developed by the Saudi Arabian Oil Company
(Saudi Aramco) and The Dow Chemical Company, both of which were
recognized, as well as five other contractors involved in the
world-scale undertaking at the Jubail-based chemical complex.
Fluor was recognized for providing engineering, procurement and
construction management services for the project’s utilities and
offsites – all the facilities outside of the process units such as field
storage, service facilities, infrastructure, electric substation,
administration and buildings.
The Sadara project won the International Petrochemical Project of 2014
following a poll by the readers of Hydrocarbon Processing, a
leading worldwide news and technical journal for the oil and gas
industries.
“Fluor congratulates Sadara on this industry recognition for its
development of the new chemicals complex, which is the world’s largest
chemical complex ever to be built in a single phase,” said Taco
de Haan, president of Fluor’s Energy & Chemicals business for
Europe, Africa and the Middle East. “Fluor participated in an integrated
team effort consisting of professionals from our Khobar, Saudi Arabia;
Farnborough, U.K.; Manila, Philippines; and Houston, Texas, offices that
were dedicated to completing this project on time and on budget.”
In addition to the Sadara Chemical Project, two other petrochemical
projects in which Fluor served as EPC contractor were in the top three
of worldwide petrochemical projects.
