Fluor Corporation (NYSE: FLR) announced today that its 95 Express Lanes
project yesterday received the American Road & Transportation Builders
Association’s (ARTBA) Transportation Development Foundation 2014
Contractor Safety Award. The award was presented to the Fluor-Lane 95
team during ARTBA’s National Convention in Rancho Palos Verdes,
California.
The Fluor-Lane 95 team currently has more than 3.2 million safe
work-hours without a lost time incident and an Occupational Safety and
Health Administration recordable rate of 0.43, well below the industry
national average of 3.6.
“I am very proud of the Fluor-Lane 95 health, safety and environmental
program,” said Walter Lewis, III, project director. “Safety is at the
forefront of every project Fluor undertakes and having ARTBA
independently recognize that is extremely gratifying for all the members
of our Fluor-Lane project team,” said Lewis.
This specific achievement honors industry firms that have implemented
outstanding employee health and safety programs with more than 1 million
safe work-hours. The Fluor-Lane 95 team was judged on seven criteria
including management commitment, employee participation, incident
investigation, audit procedures, safety planning, management
implementation and risk assessment.
During the ARTBA National Convention, the Fluor-Lane 95 team also
accepted an Outreach Campaign award for its “Orange Cones. No Phones”
driver awareness program that has been implemented on the project. This
award recognizes efforts that promote roadway work zone safety through
implementation of employee and/or public education campaigns on a
national, state or local level.
The 95 Express Lanes project is located in northern Virginia and is on
schedule for substantial completion in December 2014 with lanes opening
to traffic in early 2015.
