Range of services includes engineering, procurement, construction and maintenance at all of Luminant’s fossil-fuel plants in Texas
Fluor Corporation (NYSE: FLR), at a special event today, celebrated 30
years of providing power plant maintenance and capital project support
services to Luminant, a Texas-based electric utility company and
wholly-owned subsidiary of Energy Future Holdings Corporation. Fluor
began its alliance with Luminant in 1984 by providing ongoing
maintenance and modification services at four of the company’s power
units. For the next three decades, that relationship expanded as Fluor
now provides support services at 14 power generating stations for
Luminant in Texas.
“We are honored to celebrate this incredible milestone of providing
Luminant with Fluor’s full suite of value-added solutions and services,”
said Matt
McSorley, president of Fluor’s Power business. “This demonstrates
the value we place on long-term relationships with our clients. The
success of this alliance is the direct result of valued and trusted
communication between both companies and a heavy focus by both
organizations to achieve the goals set by Luminant.”
“This long 30-year relationship between Luminant and Fluor is certainly
unique in this business,” said Mike Williams, Luminant’s chief fossil
officer. “It truly is a relationship, not just a contract. When you work
side-by-side for this long, you develop a deep level of trust and
familiarity. It’s a relationship that works because Fluor understands
what we’re about and is committed to making our goals their goals – not
to mention, they’re good at what they do. Fluor shares in our
responsibility of powering Texas safely and reliably.”
Fluor currently provides power plant maintenance, modification and
capital project services to Luminant at 14 power generating stations
comprising 12 lignite-fired units, 11 natural gas-fired units and 15
combustion turbine units. The system has a total capacity of
approximately 15,400 megawatts.
As part of a multi-year contact, Fluor supervisors and skilled craft
construction workers provide maintenance and major outage services for
Luminant’s power generating stations.
In July 2010, Fluor completed the engineering, procurement, construction
and commissioning of the 1,600 MW, two-unit Oak Grove Power Plant for
Luminant. Fluor leveraged its global engineering and procurement
resources and used its direct-hire construction labor in order to meet
the project’s aggressive cost and schedule requirements. The plant is
Luminant’s most cost-effective fossil generation asset and is capable of
providing power to about 800,000 homes in Texas. The project was recognized
by POWER Magazine as the “2010 Plant of the Year” and was also selected
as a PMI Project of the Year finalist by the Project Management
Institute in 2011.
Leaders from Fluor and Luminant gathered to celebrate this significant
milestone with a ceremony in Dallas.
