Fluor Corporation (NYSE: FLR) announced today that it has selected two
employee-led community projects to receive its best in class distinction
for the company’s Centennial Community Fund program. The two winning
projects – “New Sanitation Facilities for the Haryana Welfare Centre for
Persons with Speech & Hearing Impairment” in New Delhi, India; and
“Project Host Greenhouse” in Greenville, South Carolina – will each
receive $10,000 in addition to the original grants that Fluor awarded
last year.
“These two employee-led community projects are excellent examples of
Fluor’s commitment to making the world around us a better place through
our philanthropic funds and employee volunteer hours,” said Glenn
Gilkey, senior vice president human resources and administration. “As a
global company working in both developed and developing countries, we
strive to improve the communities in which our employees live and work
through programs and organizations that make sure basic human needs are
being met. I am truly proud of the time and effort that all of our
employees invest in these programs.”
In honor of the company’s 100th anniversary celebration throughout 2012,
Fluor established the $100,000 Centennial Community Fund and selected 10
charitable organizations, which were nominated by Fluor employees. Each
recipient received $10,000 as well as employee volunteers to help
complete their projects.
As part of the selection process, Fluor employees initially nominated
more than 200 different organizations and community projects from around
the globe. The finalists were chosen through a world-wide employee vote
and were announced during the company’s global Centennial celebration on
April 21, 2012.
The Haryana Welfare Centre for Persons with Speech & Hearing
Impairment in New Delhi provides rehabilitation services for students
with hearing and speech impairments. With support from Fluor’s
Centennial Community Fund, the organization is building new health,
sanitation and playground facilities to support more than 250 students.
Along with Fluor volunteers, the center is also completing renovations
to its existing washrooms and living rooms.
Founded in 1981, Project Host is a unique program that features a
culinary school that trains unemployed individuals in the necessary job
and life skills required for work in professional kitchens. Through its
Feeding Hungry Children Project, the organization prepares healthy,
scratch-made meals for 400 children each day, and its soup kitchen feeds
approximately 200 adults daily. With Fluor’s contribution and company
volunteers, the organization built a greenhouse to prolong its growing
season for its garden to support the culinary school and soup kitchen.
