CRO Names Fluor To Best Corporate Citizen List

Sole Engineering-Construction Firm in Top 100

IRVING, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Fluor Corporation announced today that it was named a “Best Corporate Citizen” by the Corporate Responsibility Officers Association (CRO) and is the lone engineering & construction firm on CRO’s Top 100 list. Companies were ranked based on factors including transparency, environmental performance, climate change, human rights, philanthropy, employee relations, financial performance and governance using 343 separate data points.

"All of the positive attributes of good corporate responsibility are an integral part of our culture as builders at Fluor," said Steve Dobbs, Fluor’s senior group president and corporate responsibility task force chairman. “As builders, we take a great deal of pride in not only the quality of our craft, but also our reputation for integrity and corporate responsibility. It is always a special reward when our efforts are recognized by others, particularly from an organization such as the CRO."

Fittingly, several long-time Fluor clients made the list from energy and chemicals, power, global services, mining and manufacturing industries.

“CRO is a highly regarded organization with membership made-up largely of corporate responsibility and sustainability leaders from FORTUNE 500 companies,” said Lee Tashjian, Fluor’s vice president of corporate affairs. “Interestingly, the determining factors for the Top 100 List are primarily the core criteria that form the basis of the Global Reporting Initiative—the foundation of sustainability reporting.”

CRO’s 10th annual 100 Best List, compiled by IW Financial and edited by CRO, is based solely on publicly available information, thus ensuring transparency. The methodology was debated and voted on by 27 leading corporate responsibility practitioners representing nine major industry segments at the CRO Conference in Chicago in late 2008.

The 2009 CRO 100 Best Corporate Citizens List® is the world’s best-known apples-to-apples comparison of Russell 1000® companies’ performance in environment, climate change, human rights, employee relations, philanthropy, financial and governance.
