American Society of Civil Engineers Honors Alan Boeckmann With OPAL Award
Fluor Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Alan Boeckmann today received
the American Society of Civil Engineers' (ASCE) prestigious Outstanding
Projects and Leaders (OPAL) Award for Management. This year's awards
were presented at ASCE's 2006 OPAL gala held at the Ronald Reagan
Building and International Trade Center in Washington, D.C.
"Receiving this OPAL Award from my peers within ASCE is truly an honor,"
said Boeckmann. "However, this recognition represents the impressive
work being done everyday by more than 37,000 dedicated Fluor employees
around the world."
"The creativity, vision and leadership of an OPAL award winner, like
Fluor's Alan Boeckmann, should serve as an inspiration for all civil
engineers," said ASCE President Dennis R. Martenson, P.E., DEE, F.ASCE.
"Not only has Alan contributed to the advancement of the civil
engineering profession, but he has also taken an important stand against
corruption on a global scale, contributing to the improvement of the
world's health, safety and economy," said Martenson.
Boeckmann has been actively involved in the fight against corruption in
the international engineering and construction industry. As chairman of
the Engineering and Construction Governors of the World Economic Forum,
Boeckmann played a major role in the multinational task force charged
with establishing benchmark business principles.
The American Society of Civil Engineers instituted the OPAL Awards in
1999 to recognize the lifetime achievements of civil engineers whose
contributions have greatly enhanced the health, safety and economy of
the United States and the world. The OPAL Awards honor outstanding
professional civil engineers for lifelong contributions in five
categories: Construction; Design; Education; Management; and Public
Works.
Founded in 1852, the American Society of Civil Engineers represents more
than 139,000 civil engineers worldwide and is America's oldest national
engineering society. For more information on ASCE, please visit www.asce.org.
