Fluor Corporation (NYSE: FLR) today announced that it has been selected
by Sasol Ltd. to perform project management, engineering, procurement
and construction services for the off-sites and utilities portion of
refinery upgrades at Sasol's Secunda, South Africa, facility.
The second-quarter award, valued at $176 million to Fluor, is the latest
in a series of awards made by Sasol to Fluor related to Sasol's major
clean fuels initiative, Project Turbo. That project is aimed at meeting
stricter South African clean fuels standards, due to take effect in
January 2006. It includes a number of facility upgrades as well as new
plants to expand production of marketable polymers.
Fluor was selected in 2003 to be Project Turbo's managing contractor for
the basic design and engineering, procurement and construction
management phases, including the procurement of bulk materials. In
addition to that role, Fluor is currently performing engineering,
procurement and construction management services for off-sites and
utilities at Sasol's Midlands facility near Sasolburg.
