Fluor Corporation (NYSE: FLR) today announced the election of Admiral
Joseph Wilson Prueher to its board of directors, effective October 28.
Admiral Prueher is a consulting professor at Stanford University's
Institute of International Studies and senior advisor on The Preventive
Defense Project.
"We are very fortunate to have Joe join our board. He brings to Fluor an
international, informed and seasoned set of perspectives, as well as
valuable expertise on China and the federal government," said Alan
Boeckmann, Fluor chairman and chief executive officer. "The addition of
Joe strengthens our board's ability to provide meaningful oversight and
strategic guidance."
Following 35 years of distinguished service in the U.S. Navy, Admiral
Prueher served two U.S. Presidents as ambassador to the People's
Republic of China from 1999 to 2001. He was responsible for directing,
coordinating and managing all U.S. executive branch activities in China.
Admiral Prueher's last command in the U.S. Navy was as
commander-in-chief of the U.S. Pacific Command (CINCPAC). The largest
military command in the world, CINCPAC spans over half the earth's
surface and includes over 300,000 people. From 1989 through 1995, he
served as commandant at the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis; commander
of Carrier Battle Group ONE; commander of the U.S. Mediterranean Sixth
Fleet and of NATO Striking Forces based in Italy; and as vice chief of
Naval Operations in the Pentagon.
In his first 24 years of service, he was an accomplished carrier-based
attack pilot. Qualified in 52 types of aircraft, he has extensive flight
and combat experience, with over 5600 flight hours and over 1000 carrier
landings. He has held numerous senior tactical commands and led the
formation of the Naval Strike Warfare Center in Fallon, NV. Admiral
Prueher has received multiple military awards for combat flying as well
as naval and Joint Service. The governments of Singapore, Thailand,
Japan, Korea, the Philippines, Indonesia and Australia have all
decorated him.
Admiral Prueher is a director of Merrill Lynch, Emerson Electric, New
York Life, Integrated Defense Technologies, as well as other business,
educational, advisory and civic boards. He is a member of the Board of
Governors of The Nature Conservancy.
Admiral Prueher graduated from Montgomery Bell Academy and then
graduated with distinction from the U.S. Naval Academy. He received a
master's degree in International Relations from George Washington
University. He is also a graduate of the Naval War College in Newport,
RI.
Anderson resigns
Fluor also announced the resignation of Paul Anderson from its board of
directors. Anderson, who will become chairman and chief executive
officer of Duke Energy on November 1, felt his departure appropriate
given the historic and expected future relationships between Fluor and
Duke.
"I would like to thank Paul for his contributions while on the board and
wish him well in his new position," said Boeckmann. "Duke Energy has
made an excellent decision with Paul's appointment as chairman and CEO,
and we look forward to working with him in his new role."
With these changes, Fluor's board now consists of one inside director
and 10 from the outside, consistent with the company's policy of having
primarily independent, outside directors.
